New Milford Hospital Offers Monthly Blood Pressure/Glucose Screenings
The Diabetes Education and Management Department at New Milford Hospital offers
free, monthly blood pressure screening and glucose screening on the second Friday
of every month from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary, and fasting for
the finger-stick glucose screening is recommended. The next screening will take
place on Friday, February 8, 2013 in Robison Conference Room A at New Milford Hospital.
According to the American Diabetes Association statistics, 57 million people have
pre-diabetes and do not even know it. Pre-diabetes is a serious condition that can
be treated. Pre-diabetes raises the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, heart disease
and stroke. People with pre-diabetes have blood glucose levels higher than normal
but not high enough to be classified as diabetes.
The good news, however, is that people with pre-diabetes can prevent the development
of Type 2 diabetes by making changes in their diet and increasing their level of
physical activity.
The Diabetes Education and Management program at New Milford Hospital offers many
services, including individual and group (education) sessions, a diabetes support
group, blood sugar screenings and community outreach.
Free blood pressure and glucose screenings will be held at New Milford Hospital
monthly from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on the following dates: March 8, April 12, May 10, June
14, July 12, August 9, September 13, October 11, November 8 and December 13, 2013.
