Western Connecticut Health Network Opens New Outpatient Laboratory Centers in Bethel and Newtown

Western Connecticut Health Network LaboratoriesAs part of Western Connecticut Health Network's commitment to a higher level of care, two new outpatient laboratory Patient Service Centers have opened, offering ample, free parking and convenient hours to serve the community. Following the opening of the Bethel location at Mountain Laurel Plaza (Route 6), 68 Stony Hill Road in Fall 2012, the newest location at 14 Church Hill Road, Suite C-9, in Newtown, will open on April 15. The Bethel Patient Service Center is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM-4 PM. The Newtown Patient Service Center is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM-2:30 PM. For appointments at all laboratory Patient Service Center locations, call 203-739-4999.

Services performed at the Patient Service Centers include phlebotomy (blood drawing) and specimen collection for a wide range of analysis and testing. A physician's lab test order can be faxed, electronically transmitted or hand carried to the center. All outpatients who currently use Danbury Hospital and New Milford Hospital for lab services may use the new Bethel and Newtown locations, in addition to outpatient laboratory centers already open in Brookfield, Danbury, New Milford, Ridgefield and Southbury. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome.

Western Connecticut Health Network performs more than 2.3 million laboratory tests on human blood and tissue samples annually. For the small percentage of testing that requires additional expertise, the laboratory provides physicians with access to reference lab information and support from Mayo Clinic, offering the most advanced laboratory expertise available anywhere.

"Health care is moving at an increasingly fast pace, and patients are moving in many directions – which is why we are integrating laboratory services across Danbury and New Milford hospitals, and in communities throughout the region," said Paul Fiedler, MD, the newly appointed chairman of laboratory medicine.

Beginning in 2011, the network affiliated with Mayo Medical Laboratories, the reference laboratory for Mayo Clinic headquartered in Rochester, Minnesota, whose medical practice and medical research group specialize in the diagnosis and treatment for difficult patients. While Western Connecticut Health Network performs expert assessment for 97 percent of its laboratory testing right here in Connecticut, the remainder go to Mayo Clinic when additional scientific evaluation is necessary.
