Western Connecticut Medical Group Pilots Online Appointment Scheduling
for Regional Primary Care
Patients Can Easily Find Doctors and Instantly Book an Online Appointment Using Free Service Powered by ZocDoc
Western Connecticut Medical Group has introduced a new pilot service for current and prospective patients, offering instant online access to appointments among a select group of its primary care physicians. The service allows patients to instantly book an appointment online with physicians practicing internal medicine, family medicine and pediatrics - the disciplines collectively known as primary care - further encouraging individuals and families to establish a relationship with a physician who can provide for their long-term health needs and concerns in a timely, thorough and cost-effective manner.
This service is powered by ZocDoc, a company with a mission of improving access to healthcare. By showing doctor's real-time availability and facilitating instant online booking, this free service helps increase efficiency for medical providers and reduces wait times for patients - the majority of whom are able to secure an appointment that takes place in one to three days.
To use the free service, visit WesternConnecticutMedicalGroup.org, click "Find A Doctor", and look for featured internal medicine, family medicine and pediatric specialists who have a ZocDoc online scheduling link, including:
Patients can then see these doctor's availability, along with qualifications, verified patient reviews, photos, and more tools to help patients choose the practitioner who best fits their needs. Patients simply select an available timeslot and complete a brief checkout process to book an appointment. Patients will also receive email and text message appointment reminders for added convenience. The service eliminates the need for time-consuming phone calls, so that patients can book appointments anytime of the day or night with participating WCMG primary care physicians. In fact, 40% of online appointments booked via ZocDoc are done so after the doctor's office has closed.
According to Executive Director Tom Linhares, WCMG is working to improve access and convenience for patients in a variety of ways to ensure timely care and satisfaction with every interaction of their health care experience. "Studies show that people who receive regular medical care are far less likely to be hospitalized than those without a primary care doctor," he said, "Our highly trained doctors are rooted in the community and committed to developing close relationships with patients and families. It's all about making a connection to preserve one's health and well-being. Instant, online scheduling will make it easier for our patients to connect and see their doctors with greater ease."
With primary care locations in 10 of the region's towns, WCMG is organizing to better serve patients in today's evolving era of healthcare reform with designation as a Patient Centered Medical Home by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. This designation identifies those medical practices working to maintain a set of standards known as Physician Practice Connections, which serve to strengthen the physician-patient relationship, coordination of care across multiple settings, and a team approach to improving patient care. With a primary care physician leading a team of health care professionals across settings and disciplines, the goal of a Patient Centered Medical Home is successful care coordination to support quality improvement, patient satisfaction, and responsible use of expertise and resources.
More than 2.5 million patients each month use ZocDoc to find a nearby doctor or dentist and instantly book an appointment online. The company's most recent product, ZocDoc Check-In, allows patients to fill out their paperwork online in advance of their appointment. By revealing the 'hidden supply' of appointments, ZocDoc helps patients receive faster access to care and optimizes doctor's schedules. ZocDoc has raised $95 million in investments to date and is currently available in +1,800 cities and covers 40 percent of the US population. This service is free for patients via ZocDoc.com for the free ZocDoc apps for iPhone or Android. A Spanish-language version called ZocDoc en Espanol is also available (espanol.zocdoc.com; iPhone and Android).
