Financial Arrangements
At the time of admission, you will have the opportunity to review your insurance coverage. Whenever possible, the hospital will bill your insurance company directly, provided your benefits have been verified and you have completed the necessary forms assigning benefits to the hospital.

A Word About Insurance
  • If you have Blue Cross, Medicaid, Medicare, group or private health insurance or Workers' Compensation coverage, you should bring your identification card and insurance form if necessary.
  • Be sure to contact your insurance company as soon as your hospital stay is scheduled to verify coverage of services you expect to receive and to ensure that pre-admission and certification requirements are met.
  • Many insurance programs require pre-admission certification, notice of admission, second surgical opinions, and treatment authorization. You should contact your health insurance representative to review your benefits prior to admission.
  • For emergency admissions, most insurance companies require notification by the subscriber as soon as possible.
  • Managed care (HMO) subscribers - Please verify with the admitting department that New Milford Hospital and your private physician participate with your health plan.
If you need assistance with determining your health insurance benefits, please feel free to contact the hospital's Insurance Verification Department:

  • Patient last name beginning with A-L

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I have insurance. Why am I receiving a bill? Shouldn't you send it to my insurance company?
The statement you receive from New Milford Hospital is called a first-time statement. If you provided the hospital with your insurance information when you registered, the business office bills your insurance on your behalf. Keep this statement as a reference for any future communication with us. Since insurance coverage varies, we automatically bill your claim for the full amount. If your insurance carrier pays less than the full amount or does not pay us in a timely fashion, you will receive a bill. Even though you have insurance, you are responsible for the full payment of your bill.

My insurance only paid part of my bill. Why?
Most insurance policies require you to pay a deductible and/or co-insurance. In addition, you could be responsible for non-covered services. Please contact your insurance carrier for specific answers to your questions. You are responsible for any balance unpaid by your insurance.

Why did my insurance deny my claim? What can I do?
Insurance plans do not always cover all services. You can find out what is covered and what is not by referring to your health benefits manual provided by your insurance carrier or employer. If your claim has been denied, please contact your insurance carrier for specific details.

What services must be pre-certified?
Since insurance carriers vary, please contact your insurance carrier for specific instructions concerning pre-certification. If an insurance carrier's pre-certification policy is not followed, many carriers impose a financial penalty to the patient or in some cases refuse to pay at all.
